Norwegian Dream Gets a Rude Awakening

Norwegian Dream got a rude awakening today when she hit a barge in Montevideo (Uruguay). The result was damage to the bow of the ship, which will be repaired in port before the cruise can continue.
The port was closed for a few hours as 5 containers and a few new cars were retrieved from the water. This affected Celebrity’s Infinity and Orient Lines Marco Polo, Infinity was unable to leave the port on time, while Marco Polo was unable to enter the port.
Royal Caribbean are first to cruise from Panama

Royal Caribbean are the first major cruise line to cruise out of Panama. Enchantment of the Seas will depart from Colon for a number of weekly cruises between December 08 and April 09. This follows on the heals of Legend of the Seas cruising out of Santa Domingo, Splendour of the Seas from Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Rhapsody of the Seas plowing for trade in the Far East.
Legend of the Seas to Cruise Asia

News is breaking that Legend of the Seas will not be returning to the Caribbean after its 2008 Mediterranean Season, it will be cruising in Asia instead. This follows on from the news that Barcelona will be hosting both Voyager and Navigator of the Seas, with Southampton hosting the new build Independence of the Seas. Carnival has already announced that their new ship for 2008 will also be heading to Europe as is Pride of Hawaii soon to be renamed Norwegian Jade.
With the above additions to the European Cruise offerings it makes me wonder if Legend of the Seas will make its proposed return to Rome on May 20th 2009. Why, Costa Cruises, Cunard, P&O, NCL, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, MSC… the list is endless of new builds due over the next two years will mean that Europe will soon be reaching saturation point.
Carnival Receives Freedom

Carnival Freedom, the 110,000-ton, 2,974-passenger new build has been handed over to Carnival in time for her inauguration on Sunday, in Venice, Italy.
She is due to complete a series of 12 night Eastern Mediterranean and Greek Isles cruises before repositioning to the Caribbean for the winter.
